If we're new friends, man am I glad you're here! If we're old friends, you've probably been praying over the release of this blog alongside me for over a year now. And if that's you, I can't thank you enough!
My name is Rebecca Dotson. I lead a nonprofit called 818 Ministries out of Knoxville, TN. We donate handmade hats and handwritten letters of encouragement to patients fighting serious illnesses. It's such a joy and it's so fun that on most days I could just burst at the faithfulness of the Lord throughout watching it unfold into what it is today. However, some life went down before I "launched" it and God put a burden on my heart throughout my mom's journey with cancer (side note: she BEAT it, praise the Lord!). He put a calling on my heart with a conviction so strong that I had no choice but to chase after it, one hesitant step of obedience at a time.
It feels like a long time coming to be writing these words to you, although you probably think this is a new "thing". It's been a thing stirring in my heart for about a year now (at least that's when I can find on record that I started praying about it in my prayer journal).
I often get asked questions like,
"How did you start 818 Ministries?"
"What books are you reading?"
"What podcasts do you listen to?"
"If you could go back and start this whole journey over again, would you? And if so, what would you do differently?"
I can say a resounding YES to the last question! I believe with all my heart that God created me for a unique purpose. I believe He chose to use my mom's cancer journey to reveal to me that He had a greater purpose than the mundane "nine to five"; a purpose of encouraging and giving hope to patients fighting serious illnesses.
But hear me when I say this: He created YOU for a purpose too. I don't know what that is or what necessary next steps He is nudging you to take, but I can't wait to navigate it together. And I do know that He is faithful and able to do immeasurably more than you could ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20).
I love doers, entrepreneurs and creators of things. You're my people. I love talking to you and I love answering your questions. I couldn't be more excited to create a platform that will allow me to do both.
I want with all my heart for you to do the thing. You know, that thing that makes your heart skip a beat. Maybe you think it's too big, or way too small. But either way, it's your calling and I can't wait to help you take tangible steps toward it.
So, with that said, WELCOME FRIENDS! I am so excited to share helpful, practical content with you on how to run hard after God's calling on your life. It is unique. It is unlike any other. And I can't wait to hear about yours!
We'll have guests (I'll call them our entre-fam!) step in and share about topics in which they are an expert. Leadership? Time management? Spiritual and personal growth? Digital marketing? We'll cover it all. I'll share my journey of leading 818 Ministries with you (and all that comes along with that). And, of course, I'll share some fun Tennessee happenings with you as well!
Your biggest fan,
Prayer for the entrepreneur:
Jesus, what a mighty Creator You are. You made light and darkness, the skies and the ocean, the sun and the stars and yet, you made me too. You created me in Your image. You designed the innermost parts of me in a way that is unmatched by anyone else. You made me with no rival.
As I create and "do the thing", may I always strive to glorify You. In the good, the hard, the mountaintop and the valley, may You always be the Rock that I run to and the Shelter in which I rest in.
In Your name,
